Almost a toss up.
Went with Nebraska even though OSU has 1 more NC, due to the fact that in the modern era of college football Nebraska had to overcome a much greater obstacle in Oklahoma than Ohio State did in Michigan.

Nebraska has more Conference Championships than Ohio State and anyone else for that matter and fielded the greatest team ever in 1995.

Close, but it goes to Nebraska

I dont see it as close. Neb beats tOSU in Conf. Championships, 11 wins all time, 5 bowl wins and 7 bowl games.
tOSU has them with win %, 3 NC which is why the game is played, 15 all americans, 4 heisman winners, many draft picks, many first rounders, over 100 weeks in AP and 25 weeks at #1.

Nebraska has 5 NC's
Ohio State has 6 NC's.

Ohio State had to go thru Michigan with only 2 NC's since 1945.
Nebraska had to go thru Oklahoma with 7 NC's since 1945.
It's a no brainer which team had the easier path.

Big 10 >>>>> Big 8

You forgot
Minnesota 1 NC
MSU. 4 NC
Iowa 1 NC
That is from your time frame.

1 team does not a conference make.

Iowa has never won an NC from the AP or Coaches Poll
Michigan State has 2 NC's= 1952 Consensus AP/Coaches - 1965 Coaches only
Minnesota did have the 1960 Consensus AP/Coaches in 1960 with an 8-2 record.

Were talking facts here, not make believe.

OU 7 NC, more than those Big 10 combined...and had to beat NU and Texas to do it. 1971 Game of the Century was the best two teams from one conference ever (and still my pick for the best NU team because of that defense, and OU still scored on it more than the rest of NU's foes). So anytime NU won a NC you know they had to play OU to get there. (Should I count CU's one NC?)

Used College football data warehouse. Those are their numbers. It does show that he Big 10 had numerous top programs, so it was not 6 wins and a battle

Sooner or later you two will realize the shame you have brought on House Switzer.

Both teams overall body of work is impressive. Interesting that Nebrakas glory years ended in the 2001 Hurricane while the Buckeyes survived the 2002 Hurricane and have been one of College football's Elite ever sense.

Buckeyes in a close one.

Should I count Michigan's 2? Again it is about the conference slate. Big 10 was very good back in the day. Big 8 was generally the Big 2.

Yet the Huskers were racking up NCs while Ohio St was losing to USC in the Rose Bowl, for the most part.

Except it wasn't consistent, more like the SWC, one team really good and every now and then an upstart would win something. And it wasn't until Devaney in 1961 that NU really started to become the powerhouse most people associate with NU. In the meantime those Big 10 schools you named became irrelevant on the college landscape.

Yeah, but they count anybody and everybody's NC as legit...only time I use that site is for scores, opponents and wins...and conference champions. It has OU with 23 NC. :pound:

The site said 8, the NCAA says 9. You may not use that site but do you use the NCAA? Or do you just use your own stats when it is needed for your argument?

Even with out that tOSU had Neb. in too many other categories.

what's with the discrepancy with the NC's...Winsipedia has it 8-5, tOSU-Neb

I always thought Nebraska has more that tOSU?

Everyone on this board makes big arguments about 'current' CFB, and that games in the 'old' days dont matter- so which is it?

Enough with my confusion, carry on.

It's simple.
AP/Coaches Poll/BCS/CFP NC's are all that matter.
Ohio State has 6
Nebraska has 5
