LaFell is starting to look like a receiver in NE as well.

I'm glad you didn't insert the Sr. into Steve Smith. What the hell is up with that anyway?

Maybe cause there is Torry Smith. Better than like a World Peace etc BS

this discussion is crazy... cam is insanely talented.. for some reason ppl think that you have to run a standard peyton manning offense...

put cam in a no huddle spread with some speed option jet sweeps and playaction... the panthers offense is silly and untalented that why cam newton is struggling

But Torry Smith would have to be Steve Smith Jr....

And he's not. So maybe Smith Sr, but not Steve Smith Sr....

Agreed it's better than a World Peace though.

I mean what other NFL team ties up $46+ mil in RBs?

....and yet continues to have one of the least talented RB situations in the league.

There is an old adage that you never sign a RB to a big 2nd contract knowing how RB's wear down. Carolina went against this not once, not twice, but 3 TIMES! The stupidity of their GM paying ANY of these guys individually is a black mark against his record. Paying all 3 of them at the same time should get him shown the door this offseason.

Jeez, I'm going to have to stay up with meaningless current events....

I looked it up and read his son was imminent but not born.

Either way, explanation accepted.

Though he'll always be little Stevie Smith to me...

Dare I say it? Black QB's just don't work in the NFL.

This isn't breaking news

Do I understand correctly that he's blaming a phantom injury for his performance last night?

My Fantasy Football opponent had Aaron Rogers and Philly's D/ST.

I got stomped.

Cam Newton is the highest paid NON-playoff winning QB in history. I wonder if he can break the 20 touchdown passes barrier this year?

It's halfway through Cam Newton's 4th year, and he's actually gotten worse since his rookie season. That's usually the case with running QBs that don't really improve on the little things & defenses figure out how to defend you (cough! Kaep! Cough). Let's look at his performance so far.

55 games & 57 combined interceptions & fumbles.
7.6 YPA and just under 60% completion percentage.
86.5 career passer rating in an era where the average keeps going up every season because of rule changes & pressure to call penalties.
0-1 in the postseason despite having home-field advantage. Threw 2 picks.

...I mean, that's not a terrible resume, but I don't think it's anywhere near good. It's probably even below average.

Is it too soon to say this about Cam Newton? Does he deserve more time before we can really know what he is as a QB?

Of course he's mediocre at best. That was always his ceiling. But he's startable. And that was always his floor. Some of us always knew this, and others just don't know how to evaluate Quarterbacks.

Good topic and great point in your opening paragraph about running QBs starting hotter than they ever reach again.
