However, given that there's a written record (by default) on this site, it's usually pretty easy (and kind of fun) to catch them in their lies and expose them for the frauds they are. For example, I've spent time on mlive and have been appalled at the number of commenters constantly calling for Holland's immediate firing. Hoards seriously exclaiming "Babcock must go" and "trade everyone". Hoards calling for tanking for high draft picks like the Penguins and Blackhawks did.

There's a distinct line between realism and bombastic self-loathing pessimism and, from what I've seen, the percentage of the latter is far too high.

My favorite is when they act all pretentious about player behavior and no longer follow "team X" because "player y" is a douchebag, has been arrested, or was accused on social media of doing anything at all, and therefore is instantly guilty. Apparently this type of person thinks that their moral compass runs so true that they get to pass judgment on everyone and anyone, even without the slightest shred of proof, never mind the fact they have no vested interest in any of it, nor do they know any parties involved on a personal level. My theory is that they're trying to mask their own past transgressions by pretending to take the moral high-ground. Basically, imo, it's a case of "he who cast the first stone..."

It kinda helps that the Tigers are going for 5 straight division titles and have been to the WS twice in the last ten years. Multiple MVPs, CY's, a Triple Crown blah blah blah.

Plus a good 5-6 years of the greatest talent in MLB history, Don Kelly.

Back in the day (BDK, before Don Kelly), when we were running shit like Rob Fick, Shane Halter, Nate Cornejo, Ramon and Omar as a DP combo and what not out there it made people actually think Bobby Higginson was a stud.

People like to think they root for talent, even if the rest of the world knows they aren't. (Don Kelly is exempt from this example.)

Sat with Nate Cornejo at his bar in Wellington KS few years back many nights. Down to earth guy who will tell you his stuff was not the greatest. Felt it was good enough #4 or #5 money though aand just couldn't stay healthy to get that one big contract.

Never sat with DK, glad I didn't though. He sucked also...

Detroit Pistons -- they don't count.

Actually, I recall the Pistons winning a championship and going to 4 straight eastern conference finals in the 2000's. Quite impressive. It's the Lions who are the only team in Detroit that is straight up dog shit almost every year. As much as I love Barry Sanders, that asshole is the reason I became a Lions fan in the first place. I can't switch teams because Vegas or LA doesn't have a football team. Can't be a Cardinals fan cause they are just lame.
