Now that the Browns draft is over I'm not too happy with the results. I see why Holmgren was ranked as the 27th best GM while he held that job in Seattle.
After trading for Sheldon Brown CB was not that great a need, yet they still drafted Joe Hayden CB, Florida. Earl Thomas S, Texas I thought would have been a better choice. Safety was a more pressing need. Then they would not have needed to reach for TJ Ward S Oregon in the second round. Or cover themselves by drafting another safety in the 5th round Larry Asante from Nebraska. D-Line depth and pass rush was a huge need especially after trading Wimbley, yet that was not addressed until their last pick in the 6th round Clifton Geathers DE S Florida. He's big with some up side put raw and most likely will not help this year.
Now on to Quarterback, I'm not a big fan of Colt McCoy. Quick name the last Big 12 quarterback to start for 2 full years in a row in the NFL. Give up? Lynn Dickey. The Big 12 went from the wishbone to the spread and doesn't produce NFL caliber QBs. I would have much rater had the kid from Fordham John Skelton.
Apparently the Brown's philosophy is to throw as many bodies as possible at a position and see what sticks. This year it's the secondary, hopefully next year will be the front 7.
