I like pick of JJ fr Vikings.

I think because Mi was so run heavy JJ often didn't need to do much is leaving some fans a little underwhelmed

That's the big mystery. Will he look better in a more wide-open NFL offense.

It was a great class. Hopefully they round out the rest of the league because it was short about ten real QBs last year.

Mahomes, Hurts, Love, Rodgers all sat.

Burrow, Stroud, Allen all played.

It can work both ways.
Well, you can add Love sat as well. I know it can work both ways, I know it has not worked playing our disasters right away.

How much of the hate on the Penix pick is due to it screwing up pundits' mock drafts? Not only did most of them have him projected as a day 2 pick, but they had the Falcons going WR or defense. That was a complete bomb to their mocks.

Some of that has to be a real factor. There are a decent number of people who make money off the idea that they know how to evaluate talent.

That said, a lot of people had Nix as a day 2 and you don't really see the hate for that one. The idea that they are giving up on Cousins is a factor.

Low-key another factor is that the Falcons were an obvious spot for a defensive player and instead we got 14 straight offensive players. Whenever thing swing too hard towards offense for any reason it ruffles a lot of feathers.

I don't see it as giving up on Cousins at all. Anyone who looks at Cousins' contract can see its a two year deal inflated to 4 with only $10M guaranteed beyond year 2. Should they wait until they're picking in the 20s over the next 2 seasons to try to get a QB?

It's not like they ignored their other needs; they went DL the next 3 picks.

As far as people who make money off evaluating talent, wouldn't that include the Falcons' staff? Or the 3 other teams that reportedly tried to trade up in the top 10 to get Penix?

The Vikes certainly didn't select JJ with their 1st round to sit on the bench for any great length of time. What's the skinny in Minny as to when he's expected to take over the reins? I saw something on the NFL channel where he'll be coming into camp with the expectations that he'll compete for the starter's role in preseason, and possibly go into September as the starter.

Sure but they're functionally insiders and not talking heads/youtubers. In this space, you get a ton of credit if you're as smart or smarter than the insiders and lose a ton of credit if you're routinely proven wrong. Except for Brett Kollmann. He sticks around for some reason.

There's no doubt the Falcons stunned the mock world by taking him with the 8th pick. There's no harm in planning the future of your QB situation for years to come, but it still remains a bit of a head scratcher that the Falcs gave that huge contract to Cousins knowing they had an excellent chance, maybe even 100%, at having Penix on the board when it would be their turn to pick.

KOC has said he has a plan for him, I doubt he'd sit all season, but wouldn't be entirely surprised, but I would expect him to take over for Darnold mid season

The Falcons didn't have a succession plan for Ryan when he was there and it clearly hurt them as they went through a bunch of QB's in the post Ryan era.

The Falcons don't have that now. KC prolly retires after 2 seasons since that is basically what the guaranteed money amounts to.

It's pretty clear the league loved all these QBs and the pundits were dopes.

I'm seeing 3 seasons if I'm looking at his contract right. He is almost 20% of their capspace in 2026.

IDK eating 25 million sounds like a lot but look at how much the Broncos eat letting RW go. I'd bet on them cutting him year 3.

Yeah, I think there is at least a 50% chance the Falcons regret bringing in Cousins in the first place. Its seems like there is some self-awareness to that within the Falcons organization which is unusual.

I'll say again they need to trade Cousins to the Raiders.

2025 first round pick to be contenders now in the AFC. Falcons get to look smart.
