Man, I'm jealous. Those 8 months in Helena, all the flyfishing in every direction of the map...good times.

I fished in a snow flurry in June/July, so take a Goretex light jacket.

Thanks. Gear is in place. Spend the next week getting around the house stuff done, scrips filled and a little practice at the lodge pond

I live about 20 miles from Glacier Nat'l Park.

Which direction. Hungry Horse?

well maybe a hair further than 20, but close enough. C. Falls.

I spend the majority of my Summer and Fall days floating the North and Middle Fork of the Flathead river.

It is my favorite thing in the world to do and favorite place in the world to BE.

Was heading that way 2 years ago but a death in the family cut my vacation short. Made it as far as Bozeman, but I did get to fish the Yellowstone

Beautiful. That poor river has all but been ruined. There are still plenty of fish, just don't eat any of em. Between the 2011 spill and the one this year....why they let em' do that shit, I'll never know.

Very beautiful area tho.

Very beautiful area tho.

I was fishing the area just north of the park, south of Gardiner. Did that stretch get affected?

from wiki
2011 oil spill
ExxonMobil pipeline which runs from Silver Tip, to Billings, Montana, ruptured about 10 miles (16 km) west of Billings on July 1, 2011, at about 10:40 p.m.[12] The resulting spill leaked an estimated 1,500 barrels of oil, equivalent to 63,000 US gallons (240,000 l; 52,000 imp gal), into the Yellowstone River for 56 minutes before it was shut down.[12] As a precaution against a possible explosion, officials in Laurel, Montana evacuated about 140 people on Saturday[when?] just after midnight, then allowed them to return at 4 a.m.[13] Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer stated that "The parties responsible will restore the Yellowstone River".[14]

The recent one obviously hadn't happened yet, when you were there. The Clark Fork has had similar issues in the past from the Anaconda copper mines, but it's still one of my favorite places to fish.

I don't keep em' from there tho.

We won't be eating the fish unless we accidentally kill them. My buddy and I are catch and release types. Don't get me wrong, I love eating trout but it is a scarce resource.

The entire thing for me is the hook up...that instant where YES, he took it! Unless it's scary big and a challenge to land, after those first coupla head shakes I'd as soon have it get off the hook so I can get back to that hook up~

....unless of course, it's late in the afternoon and it's the first one you've caught all day!

So is that close to the town that sells nothing but "huckleberry pies" and 'huckleberry shakes" and "huckleberry jam", etc. ???

Sure is pretty up there.

If it not picture-worthy, then just shake off there ya little fucker, but if it's picture-worthy, it doesn't even count unless yer hands stink after.
