My 'baby' brother and all of his friends are ex army, and a couple years ago he convinced me to join them for a day of shooting stuff. I ended up having fun and have joined them quite a few times since then. Every single one of them has an AR-15 and every one has a pistol for CC. Luckily they're all pretty generous with their stuff, especially as I have been chipping in with a couple boxes of ammo. A year and a half ago I bought myself a .22 just to practice with, since I was the worst shot there by far. And then just recently I bought myself a CC, but I got a 10 mm, and it really isn't that fun to shoot all day.

So anyways, I was thinking of getting something to bring to the party. I actually kind of prefer the bullpup designs that a couple guys have. They feel more right or something to me. I also don't want to get another ar, everybody there already has one, and part of the reason I want to get something was to kind of repay everyone by letting them shoot something different. Also my hope was to not spend a million dollars on ammo.

My initial thoughts were maybe an AR 18 in .308 but I don't really know. I wanted something more than the 9 mm many of them had, but the 10 mm gets to be too much after not too long. So I "think" I know that I want something with more thump than those .223 toys, but not so much I can't shoot more than 20-30 rounds without wanting to be done for the day.

Not sure what you're looking to spend though, things of this nature in those calibers can easily get in the $1500-$2000+ range. Buddy of mine has a Tavor SAR in .223 that he gave around $1600 for and while it's fairly fun to shoot, he ends up shooting my AR more when we go shooting. His Tavor is heavier and not quite as accurate.

When I first started looking at pistols all the ones I saw that I liked were ~2k. So I was planning on spending that. Then I found one for 1200 that I liked almost as much... Which convinced me to just get a cheap glock and saved like $1300. So I will probably spend between 1300-2000 ish. Maybe a tiny bit more if it seems worth it to me at the time.

Springfield Armory M1A super match or a national match. I have both they are heavy and don't have much recoil even though they are in .308. They are a blast to shoot and you'll get plenty of attention if you walk out on the range with a super match!

We just received a few of the Smith & Wesson M&P340 Revolvers with Crimson Trace Laser Grips and also has the XS Big Dot Night Sights installed from the factory. The M&P 340 with it's lightweight alloy frame and snagless internal hammer makes this a great concealed carry weapon or nightstand gun. Will shoot .38 or .357 Magnum ammo.

I was going to say, probably my choice in that price range would be an M1A. Heavy, low recoil and shoots the .308 and if you want you can use it for matches.
