Depends on who's available and how well the Lakers have scouted. Jordan Clarkson was the 46th pick and seems to be doing okay.

Yeah - Clarkson is a good candidate to be a starter next year imo. I would start him so that he would become the point guard we need with some youth.

I wouldn't. Simply because it will only be his 2nd year. We need a chance to see if he's just a guy putting up good numbers on a bad team, or if he's the real deal.

The best way is to play him, and let's face it - the Lakers have one 5 championships without a legitimate point guard any way, but I kind of favor Dragic on a three year plan that allows Clarkson to come off the bench and develop evenly. Given the choice, I would start Clarkson over giving Rondo a contract. I just don't like the guy unless he gets a two year contract at the most - that allows Clarkson to come of the bench

Just check the names in the low 20s and early 2nd round to get a sense of who will be in that range. I'd like to see Delon Wright drop that far. That mock has him 26th but I've seen him in the teens in most mocks.

If the Lakers can get Dragic he would be good for Clarkson to learn under. Keep in mind too, Clarkson is more of a "combo guard" and someone will need to play the 2 when Kobe retires. The Lakers could get Dragic or Rondo, let Clarkson back up Kobe and learn the 2 guard spot. Lots of options with that kid if he's the real deal and the Lakers play their cards right.

Also, I wouldn't be shocked if LA traded the 27th pick to move back into the 2nd round if a team really wanted a player. Like give up the 1st rounder for two 2nd rounders. 2nd rounders are cheaper and non guaranteed contracts. That would free up a little extra cap space for this summer and next. There isn't much difference in talent between late first and early second round guys so unless you really want that player, financially its the better move to trade if you can do it.

Hadn't thought of that. Good point. Every little bit of extra cap space will help since they seem to want to try and add a max and a near max FA this off-season. Plus, they could get lucky and find another Clarkson in the 2nd round.

Guys like that can be developed into solid role players who can be assets for a contending team or traded.

It's clear that he has skills, along with the desire and work ethic. He's no Kendall Marshall.

That's a good point. Those first rounders count towards the cap. The 27th pick is pretty cheap, but an extra million or so to spend could make a difference.

Absolutely agree that he has skills. He has some obvious talent too. I just prefer to bring him along a little slower and allow him time to develop and learn.

I liked Kendall Marshall. He had skills too. Problem was, the poor guy had almost no athletic ability to back up his skills.

What better way to bring him along than to play him? Play him along with whatever young players they have and will acquire, and then let the team develop together.

A pick in the late 20s is where you draft role players. The better and more role players you have the better your bench and starting lineup. The less you have to rely on superstars.

The Spurs have been proving that against the Clippers in this years playoffs and really, for the past few years. Plus, Lakers championship teams have always had solid, dependable role players to go along with a couple of star players.
