I would be floored if Buffalo doesn't win it. Partly because I agree with you. They're going to have the best chance on paper, but they're also a hockey rich city with a garbage professional hockey team. The league could sell the crap out of McDavid in Buffalo like they did with Crosby in Pittsburgh. Toronto and Philly will bring the league revenue regardless, it's towns like Buffalo that have enormous growth potential IMO.

win/win for Bettman. He can ensure Buffalo gets the best pick, but it's less shady when they have the best odds at it.

I thought long and hard about Buffalo as well, but I think it's a bit of a different situation than Pittsburgh because the franchise itself is currently on solid footing financially. Pittsburgh was on the verge of losing the Pens altogether. I just think the league would be best served by McDavid in Toronto or Philly. By that I'm thinking PLAYOFFS. Having big market teams consistently both making and going deep in the playoffs has a huge impact on overall league TV viewership. While an ass, Bettman knows this. We'll see what happens...

A good friend of mine ( Sabres die hard) invited me to make a 45 minute ride south to see McDavid play in Erie. Unfortunately I had to work. I really would like to see him, especially now that he's literally down the I90. Maybe next time. He's pretty much a lock IMO for Buffalo.

Right now we are sitting at 8. 1 point ahead of the BJs and they have played 1 less game. Of the 5 left we play Carolina 2 times, the Pens, Isles and Sens. The way we are playing we should go 2-3 with wins over the Pens and Isles. Last time we picked 8th we got Couterier and Mark Scheifele went 7. Dougie Hamilton went 9th.

Carolina seems to give us problems. CBJ won tonight. We should be at 7 I believe. I think we split w Carolina and beat the Pens. I agree w you 2-3 finish. Now we do a Lindros type of deal w Buffalo in the draft and get McDavid:)

One interesting pick with Tampa's pick would be Brandon Carlo. Not a high end player, but a shutdown defenseman. Either make a shutdown pair of the future with Morin-Carlo or just make him the rock on a pair with Sanheim or Ghost.

Couts and the number 7 for McDavid.

heh, going to take significantly more than that if you want McDavid I think.

I think it'd be more like Ghost, Couts, and both 1st rounders.

2015 NHL Draft Big Board - April Edition - Today's Slapshot

couple notes from my perspective:

1. The Barzal comparison to Giroux is made again. Except this time it's 'Giroux-level talent, with more compete and better all around game'. I kinda think they're selling Giroux short on both of those categories, but if that is true, I hope he ends up on the Flyers.

2. Based on how the first few picks go, it might be tough to pass up Provorov or Werenski at 7 or 8. I'd love to see those guys jump up a few slots and see Marner available though.

3. They love Carlo who 4706 mentioned a few posts above. I want more high end skill and speed with the picks though. Just my preference. I feel like the Flyers lack a lot of speed and creativity these days. (though they aren't blowing anyone away physically either I suppose)

Marner, Barzal, Werenski, Provorov are probably my top 4 for the first pick. I'm having a hard time narrowing down who to take with the 2nd pick because it seems to be pretty wide open.

Any projections on Werenski or Provorov being ready for the NHL? I will be shocked if Morin is not up next year. In 2 years several slots open with Sanheim, Ghost and Hagg looking to move up. Still would be very hard to pass on a #1 Dman.

Either Buffalo is overvaluing McDavid or I'm overvaluing Couts.

Either Buffalo is over valuing McDavid or I'm over valuing Couts.

from everything I read, drafting McDavid is essentially drafting Crosby. So you're trying to trade for a younger, cheaper, Crosby that you have salary control of for a pretty long time. If Coots and a 1st gets you that, you're overvaluing Coots :D

I can see it as Marner, Provorov, Werenski and Barzal. I have Marner as #1 as he is a RW. Any of these 4 will be a good thing.

wouldn't surprise me at all. I think there's 0 chance Buffalo trades that pick.
We just have to wait until they decide to trade him in a few years.

Not really that I've read. I expect they'd need a year or two though, just based on dmen taking a little longer than forwards. Part of the reason I'd like to see Marner or Barzal. They might be able to play next year. Though, it might be wise to send em back down to keep their confidence up while the Flyers flounder around next year.

Based on how the roster is shaping up, I think Morin, Ghost, Sanheim, and Hagg will be Phantoms next year. Which is great for the Phantoms, and probably for Stolarz too. I would be kind of surprised to see any of them hold down a full time NHL job next year. The Flyers would have to move at least one dman, two if they resign MDZ as expected. I don't know if they'll be able to do that and get decent value.

Even with the log jam at D, I think Hexy will find a way to make room for Morin. I am surprised they have not signed MDZ which will make it even more difficult.

People have to realize that 8 and 22 have one year left on their contracts - if they can't move them(I hope they do) then there just has to be patience involved

Any chance we buy out a guy like McDonald?
