Quillen is rated a 3-star #30 player in VA by rivals. He is Marshawn Williams' cousin and has been mentored by the great Mike Smith and Tyrod Taylor. He has good size and could play multiple positions. Plus, he is one of the top players in 757 this cycle. If he is good enough for CBF and TG, he is good enough for me.

Agreed. If Torian sees him as a guy he wants, I am good with it.

I just took a look at the 2016 rankings for Virginia for the first time.....WTF is Duke doing with 2 of the top 5?!?!?!?

2016 Football Top Virginia Recruits

I think the better question is, what are we doing with 0 from the top-25. Our recruiting mo has hit a brickwall. Normally we'd have about 5-6 early commits from VA by this point. I'm hoping we starting getting some verbals after Spring practice, Spring game, but I'm a little worried right now.

When has VT ever had 5-6 commits by March, let alone VA commits?

2015: 2 commits total, none from VA
2014: 3 commits total, all from VA (all had committed in 2012)
2013: 3 commits total, all from VA (2 more would commit by the end of March)
2012: 3 commits total, none from VA
2011: 1 commit total, from VA
2010: 1 commit total, from VA
2009: 1 commit total, from VA

I think last year VT had two other guys who committed but went elsewhere around this time but I'm not 100% sure. Point is, VT doesn't usually have many commits overall prior to spring.

Not a huge surprise after getting Lawson.

Agreed and I know some people will not like this but we really have had only major success with the Dual Threat types. I am hoping this season will surpise me though...

Well... I... I guess... never. Maybe I was thinking about my NCAA '14 simulations. I guess I'm concerned we don't have a big guy yet, let you said, how the fuck does Duke already have 2/Top-5. I know they've made a little noise lately, but that's insane. We've been ahead of the game for awhile now, want to say it was the Bruce Taylor year? Seemed like we always had 4-5 guys, quality guys, before Summer. Having some guys on the big board already in the bag (even if they're not technically... or even eventually) can really get the ball rolling. I'd hope we could get a bigger name early and get that guy being our own player/recruiter.

Clay Dean is an extremely confusing commit to me. Very undersized, doesn't play good competition, no other offers, super early in the cycle... What is going on with our recruiting?

What's with the downvote Croc? You mad about something?

I didn't say anything inappropriate. I think it's completely reasonable to question a signing/offer like this if we're striving to be a top 15ish program.

If we expect him to contribute at DT, he'll literally need to gain 35-40 lbs and grow at least a couple inches. That's not disrespectful. It's a fact. He doesn't play great competition, and he doesn't have other D1 offers. Again, neither are disrespecting the kid.

We should be able to express our dissatisfaction as well as our recruiting 'wins' on this board. Forgive me if I'm instantly not buying the "I trust our coaching staff" shtick, as our recruiting history, especially at DT isn't exactly one to write home about.

I don't remember downvoting you. I think I clicked it by accident when I was reading it.

I thought the same thing with this commit. While it is nice to get our own, I would like to think with the new recruiting structures in place we can finally get kids that can contribute a little earlier (if needed), have the things you can't coach - speed / athleticism and who also display certain qualities that coaches desire to see on/off the field.

Hope he is a blue collar guy who is ready to work. I'm just wondering if his next coach will be Searles instead of Wiles off of the similar body types we have taken in the past. He seems to have a high motor and work ethic which you cannot teach. A kid with a chip on his shoulder is never a bad thing.

These 2 were last sec recruits, and from what I remember they were "lower end" guys. I know they can be a dime a dozen, but they haven't fully failed us yet.
